The Traxxas Stampede has been around long enough that there’s a good chance somebody reading this owned one as their first hobby-grade RC truck. Now the 2WD Stampede has received one of its biggest updates yet.
The new Traxxas Stampede 2WD VX3 Brushless RTR was recently revealed and keeps the familiar rear-wheel-drive monster-truck formula while replacing a lot of what sits underneath the body.
The biggest change is the new Velineon VX3 brushless system. It combines a waterproof VX3 ESC with a V3200 3200Kv motor and supports both 2S and 3S LiPo power. Traxxas lists speeds of more than 35 mph on 2S and more than 50 mph on 3S without requiring a gearing change.
That’s probably enough speed to re-locate every lawn chair in your backyard.
There is more here than extra power, though.
The Stampede gets a new monocoque chassis with integrated shock towers, a longer and wider footprint, revised double-wishbone suspension and composite GTR shocks. Traxxas also fitted a 2057 waterproof metal-gear steering servo and large Talon MXT monster-truck tires.
The body is clipless and uses a new Bash-Lock system designed to keep the body securely attached during harder impacts while still making it easy to remove.
For newer drivers, the ability to run the truck on 2S may be one of the more useful features. Fifty-plus mph sounds great on the box, but learning a rear-wheel-drive monster truck at that speed can turn the first battery pack into a surprisingly effective lesson in replacement parts. Starting with 2S and moving to 3S later makes much more sense.
