Coming in at the opposite end of the monster-truck spectrum, JConcepts announced a new professionally assembled REACTOR Stage 2 Retro Monster Truck. The REACTOR platform itself arrived earlier this year, so we’re not going to pretend the truck suddenly appeared this week. What’s new is the pre-built package.
JConcepts starts with its 10.75-inch-wheelbase REACTOR Stage 2 “WOLF” chassis and does most of the work. The completed truck includes Golden Years monster-truck tires mounted to white Tribute wheels, twin JConcepts Silent Speed 27T brushed motors, a Hobbywing QuicRun Waterproof 1080 G2 ESC and ProTek 815 high-torque metal-case servo. On top sits a professionally painted 1988 Chevy Silverado monster-truck body with custom decals and a fastback treatment.
JConcepts handles the chassis assembly, electronics installation, tire mounting and gluing, body trimming and finishing. You’ll still need to supply a transmitter and receiver, 2S shorty LiPo and charger, then finish the radio and ESC setup. So this isn’t technically an RTR.
The choice of twin 27T brushed motors is also worth noting. Modern RC tends to treat brushless power as the answer to everything, but retro monster-truck racing puts more emphasis on control. JConcepts specifically designed the REACTOR around that idea and has previously explained that more power isn’t necessarily better for this type of truck.
